“Bean Nighe”
Bean Nighe (“little washer by the ford”) Scottish term for their form of Banshee. A woman who is seen washing the funeral clothes of those who are about to die. She is the ghost of a very ugly woman who died in childbirth. She has buckteeth, enlarged single nostril, and elongated breasts.
Ghosts of women who died in childbirth, these Scottish Banshees eternally wash the grave-clothes of one who is about to die. Anyone brave enough to approach one and suckle from her wizened breast will gain a wish, although he is more likely to be struck down with terror. |
